Personalize your child's room - Use your scroll saw and this alphabet to cut his or her name out of wood. Great for displaying on a shelf or mounted on a board as a sign. Also looks great painted to match the color scheme in their room. Other suggestions for using the letters cut out of wood - Spell out WELCOME to sit on a shelf in your entryway. Is your child a sports fan? Spell out the name of his favorite team and then paint the letters in the team's colors. Some small decorative painting would look great on the letters too - use clipart found online and paint small sports symbols or other small pictures on the letters!

Materials Any 3/4" wood including plywood Clear packaging tape Wood stain--your choice of color Sandpaper--fine Spray adhesive Paint brush--small bristle Tools Scroll saw or coping saw #7 or #9 saw blade Power sander (optional) Drill and 1/8" drill bit Instructions Use a power sander or hand sand the wood on both sides. Cover the wood on one side with clear packaging tape to provide the saw blade with some lubrication as it cuts. Make a copy of the appropriate letters. After making a copy, cut around the outside edge of the letter leaving a 1/4 to 1/2" of paper around the pattern lines. After cutting, attach the pattern to the packaging tape with spray adhesive. First drill 1/8" hole for inside cuts, like in the B and R. Next, saw the outside lines of the pattern with the #7 or #9 saw blade. Then saw the inside of the letters. Sand the individual pieces with fine sandpaper to smooth any imperfections. After the wood is nice and smooth, apply a wood stain, your choice of color.
